Yoga Zone: Power Yoga for Strength and Endurance
(Koch Vision)
1999
What is it?
A moderately challenging Power Yoga routine. Who is it for? Fit individuals who are already proficient at Hatha Yoga. Prior Power Yoga experience isn't necessary. What to expect: This is an excellent Power Yoga tape, both for those just getting into this particular Yoga style, and for the more experienced. Although the box cover proclaims that it's for "all levels," this is not a tape for those who are unfamiliar or inexperienced at Hatha Yoga! You will gain strength and endurance by doing the routine on this tape, but keep in mind, you already need to have a certain amount of strength and endurance - not to mention flexibility - to do it in the first place. There's no breathing routine to start the tape off, so you may want to prepare your breath and body over the tracking instructions. Once Yoga teacher Lisa Bennett gets going, there's nary a pause over the next fifty-odd minutes until Shavasana. Ever-more complex Sun Saluations, back bends and other vigorous poses keep you moving. Bennett is an excellent instructor - her explanations are clear and her attitude is cheerful and inviting. Her two helpers offer modified and full versions of each pose, but no matter which level you are at, you're just about guaranteed to break a sweat. (Incidentally, the gentleman on Bennett's right is her husband, Charles Matkin, and the couple currently run a Yoga space in New York City.) This is an energizing tape and a gratifying workout, very much recommended.
