Yoga Zone: Yoga for Abs
(Koch Vision)
2000
What is it?
Two 20-minute Yoga routines that focus on the abdominals. Who is it for? Those who are new to fitness and Yoga, and who want to want to ease into ab work. What to expect: Those who believe that Yoga is mainly stretching are always surprised at how it builds muscle strength along with flexibility. Yoga, however, does not create big, sharply defined muscles; rather, it builds muscle tone in a more subtle fashion. In other words, you won't get a six-pack by practicing Yoga but you can develop strong, nicely shaped abs. The two 20-minute routines in this program are geared towards beginners to both Yoga and fitness. They focus on abdominal awareness as much as they do on actually toning the abs. While some may wish these sessions were more challenging, this is actually a good approach. In the long run, awareness is what counts in Yoga, along with form, and these should be instilled before attempting more advanced versions of the postures. The same is true of ab work - form is crucial, as is awareness of the muscle worked. The video version of this program has two separate sessions, the first one being more basic than the second. The DVD also gives you the ability to mix and match poses as you desire. The main caveat regarding Yoga for Abs is that it really is for beginners - expect to eventually outgrow it, at which point you'll want to search out something more challenging.
