Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice for Flexibility
(Gaiam)
2004
What is it?
Flexibility practice, concentrating on back bends and forward bends. Who is it for? Iyengar Yoga practitioners who have already had some experience - advanced beginners to intermediate. What to expect: Like Yoga Practice for Beginners, this tape concentrates on one pose at a time - it's not a flowing, class-like session. It's also divided into two halves - back bends and forward bends. The instruction is Iyengar style - the focus is on form and precision and props are used when necessary (household items like phone books can be used in place of blocks). Patricia Walden teaches these postures in an encouraging manner and there are modified versions of each pose; however most of these poses will be challenging for those who haven't already developed a certain level of flexibility. Only those who have been practicing for a long time will be able to achieve the advanced versions of some of these poses... and they obviously don't need this tape! But serious yoga practitioners who aspire to the kind of flexibility that Walden exhibits will appreciate her meticulous instruction. While this is not a video that will stand on its own, it's a good supplement to an advanced beginning/intermediate program. To Order Yoga Journal's Yoga Practice for Flexibility on Video
