The Method - Pilates All in One Workout
(Current/PPI)
1997
What is it?
An 85-minute workout routine that includes a warmup, cardio, toning, core strength and flexibility. Has elements of dance, Pilates and some Yoga. You will need 3 to 5 pounds weights and a workout dowel or broomstick. Who is it for? While the intensity level is not too high, this tape is best for those with some aerobic dance experience and who have already gained a certain amount of flexibility through Yoga and/or Pilates. What to expect: There are three segments to this tape - a 15-minute, dance-based warm-up, a half hour's worth of cardio/strength training intervals and a 40-minute section that focuses on abdominals, back and flexibility. While this is a long chunk of time, the workout itself is not exhausting, and if scheduling won't allow you to do whole thing, you can just do the warm-up and one of the two workout sections. This tape is effective for those who are only mildly out of shape and who know some basic jazz dance steps - the choreography of the cardio section will confuse anyone without this knowledge, or who tends to be dance-challenged. Those who are experienced at aerobic dance or intense cardio, on the other hand, will probably find that the cardio sections don't get their hearts pumping hard enough. That said, the cardio is the weakest part of this tape - its other aspects are excellent. There is a slightly different approach to weight training here - the arm workouts are sometimes combined with lower body moves. They are very good toning exercises and make up for the so-so cardio intervals. The abs, back and flexibility workout is even better - the moves really build strength. There aren't many Yoga moves, which is something of a disappointment, and those who are experienced at Pilates may wish that a larger variety of those types of exercises had been included. But unless you have abs of steel, you will feel this workout the next day! While the All in One Workout isn't for everyone, those who fit the "Who is it for?" profile will find it an effective cross-training workout. To Order Pilates All in One Workout on DVD
