Combining Pilates and Yoga for Balance
(Center of Balance)
2003
What is it?
A 45-minute exercise routine that is half Pilates and half Yoga. Tom McCook instructs. Who is it for? Intermediate exercisers. This is a powerful routine and you need to have some experience at both Pilates and Yoga to get the most out of it. What to expect: This simply produced Yoga and Pilates workout packs a punch without overwhelming you. Instructor Tom McCook has seamlessly combined a Pilates and a Yoga routine to create a 45-minute workout that stretches and strengthens your whole body while keeping a focus on the core. Although McCook spends a few minutes introducing you to the workout and discussing technique, this isn't really a routine for beginning exercisers - you should already be familiar with both Yoga and Pilates, and a bit of flexibility helps too. McCook has a no frills, matter-of-fact style of teaching and he is seen practicing the moves alone in an unadorned setting. Since the workout is a flowing routine, this approach keeps you focused on the instruction and helps avoid distractions. That doesn't mean, however, that McCook isn't without humor - stick around for the credits after the routine is done and you'll see him trying to bend the inflexible production crew into something approximating Yoga poses. Overall, this satisfying workout offers enough challenge to keep you interested over the course of repeated practice. A definite keeper. To order Combining Pilates and Yoga for Balance on DVD
