Liz Gilles Core Fitness: Progressive Pilates for Weight Loss
(Koch Vision)
2004
What is it?
A 40-minute Pilates-based workout that focuses on fat burning, plus a bonus, 10-minute "Abs Blast" segment. Liz Gilles instructs. Who is it for? Beginning exercisers who want to ease into an exercise program, even if they are not looking to lose weight. What to expect: While Pilates alone won't do the trick when it comes to weight loss (you would also need higher intensity cardio and a modified diet for starters), Liz Gilles' energized version of Joseph Pilates' techniques is certainly an asset to any fitness regime. The first half of the workout is a combination of standing Pilates and ballet moves that will raise your heart rate just a tad while lengthening and strengthening your muscles. While the second half is mat work, the moves are based on reformer exercises rather than traditional mat, so they offer a slightly different challenge from most other Pilates workouts. After a quick cool down, there's an effective but quick 10-minute workout that focuses on the abs. Gilles' approach to Pilates is a nice change from other, more traditional mat workouts, and it does burn more calories than many other Pilates DVDs. Whether you're looking to lose a few pounds, or just looking for a new Pilates video, you'll find that this one offers a satisfying workout. To Order Progressive Pilates for Weight Loss on DVD
