The Method - Jab, Kick and Burn
(PPI)
1999
What is it?
Three 15-minute, high-impact cardio workouts with a kickboxing emphasis. There is also a bonus 10-minute ab segment. Who is it for? Advanced beginning to intermediate exercisers. There is some plyometric (jumping) activity, so watch your knees. What to expect: While it's hard to work up a really good sweat in just 15 minutes, the segments on this video - especially the last two - actually manage to do it. In spite of what the title implies, these aren't strictly kickboxing workouts; rather, they combine athletic-style dance moves with kicks and punches. Instructor Tracey Mallett has you jumping, galloping, and she even throws in a spin or two, along with the weaving, blocking and kicking. The three workouts are arranged in order of intensity - if you're a beginning exerciser, you can just do the first one, or if you already know your way around fairly intense cardio, you can do all three of them. There isn't really a cool down after any of the workouts (that's really too much to ask for in a mere 15 minutes) so you'll have to do it yourself. The 10-minute ab segment at the end is not too hard until the end, when Mallett tosses in a couple of challenging moves. Depending on your level of ab strength, this may or may not be enough for you.
