What is it?
A powerful, hour-long strength-training workout from Reebok master trainer Gin Miller. Who is it for? Intermediate and advanced exercisers who want a real home workout. Equipment needed: step platform, 5 to 15 lb. dumbbells, body bar or dowel, medicine ball and a towel. You can get away with just a step platform and dumbbells, but having all the gear makes it more fun. Except for the dumbbells What to expect: If anyone still doubts that it's impossible to get a gym-quality workout at home without expensive equipment, Simply Strong puts the doubts to rest. Gin Miller has come up with a creative series of exercises that work multiple muscle groups and build core strength, too. The exercises break down into three levels of difficulty - and the hardest level with the maximum weight will challenge nearly all advanced exercisers. While the moves are based on classics such as squats, lunges, pullovers and flyes, Miller always comes up with variations that engage the muscles in unique ways. For example, she takes your ordinary triceps dip, then has you swing your rear end between your arms. She has you squeeze the medicine ball between your knees while working your obliques. She pulses and pauses her squats and has you do one-legged deadlifts. Although this is a serious workout, Miller lightens it up with her easygoing attitude and sense of humor. On either side of the 48-minute strength-training session is an 8-minute warm-up and 8-minute cool-down. Miller explains the equipment needed and the proper form for the exercises at the end of the tape - a nice touch putting it here, so you don't have to fast-forward through it every time you run the tape.
