Yoga Zone: Yoga Sculpting
(Koch Vision)
2002
What is it?
Two 20-minute yoga sessions that focus on muscle tone. The first session concentrates on the upper body and the second half zeroes in on the lower body, especially the glutes. Who is it for? Advanced beginning to intermediate Yoga enthusiasts — you already need to know your way around a Yoga mat to get the most out of this workout. What to expect: Although Yoga is best known for increasing flexibility, it's also an excellent strength builder and muscle toning activity. You won't get big muscles the same way you would if you spent hours in the gym every day lifting heavy weights, but a vigorous Yoga program will give your arms and legs a sculpted look. That's what these two Yoga Zone workouts are all about. The first session focuses on sculpting your shoulders, arms and chest through various Yoga poses and Vinyasas (moving poses). The great thing about this session is that the poses are creative, and the instructor doesn't fall back on endless numbers of Chaturangas (basically, Yoga push ups) to build strength. The same approach is taken towards the lower body in the second session — there are both static and moving poses that will challenge your legs and glutes. For those who haven't yet developed enough strength, there are modified versions of most poses; those who can do the poses in their full versions, however, will likely feel challenged. This is a great toning workout for those who are more interested in Yoga's physical aspects than in the spiritual side. As far as difficulty level, it will satisfy most Yoga enthusiasts up to the intermediate level. Advanced Yoga students, or those who regularly do very strenuous Power Yoga sessions are the only ones who will probably find these sessions too easy. To order Yoga Zone: Yoga Sculpting on DVD
