Donna Richardson's Sweating in the Spirit
(Razor & Tie)
2004
What is it?
A 55-minute workout that includes aerobics, toning, stretching and gospel music. Donna Richardson instructs. Who is it for? Beginning exercisers. This is a fun, non-intimidating workout. What to expect: Donna Richardson has created a a feel-good gospel aerobics workout that just about anyone can do. She leads a class consisting of all body types and uses simple, dancey moves and grooves to work up a light sweat. (She also offers modifications for those who haven't exercised in a long time.) The fun part is that in addition to featuring a gospel soundtrack, Richardson includes appearances from three gospel stars, two of them Grammy winners. Kirk Franklin actually leaps into the half-hour aerobics class and dances along. After the aerobic segment, Shirley Murdock sings you through a warm up for the 15-minute light toning section. Yolanda Adams' beautiful voice graces the cool down and stretch — Richardson actually motions you through the cool down so as not to interrupt the song. The three segments can all be done together or done separately as time allows. Even if you are not particularly religious, this is a pleasant workout that most beginners will be able to do.
