Slimming Down With Yoga
It Helps You Shed More Than Just Pounds

Why are so many Yoga enthusiasts so darn skinny? If I practice Yoga will I be able to look like them?

These two questions have been asked many thousands of times by people who are looking for a way to lose some pounds. There's really no answer for the first query - although a Yogic diet, which is vegetarian, will help anyone drop weight, not all Yoga enthusiasts these days eschew meat. To be honest, a good number of people who come to Yoga were on the thin side before they ever started (of course, they're far more toned and healthy than they were when they first began). Why are so many slender people drawn to Yoga? Who knows - they're often no more flexible than those who are carrying a little extra weight. It's something of a mystery, especially when Yoga is such a great practice for those who are heavier - it's no-impact and it's adaptable to any body shape and fitness level.

The second question - "Will Yoga make me thin?" - can only be answered by the person who asked. While Yoga's benefits may seem miraculous at times, there are some things it just cannot do. If you're big-boned and everyone in your family has been heavy, then it's an exercise in futility to try to slim down to a size three - in fact, it's unhealthy to even think about it! But if you're only a few pounds over your ideal weight, Yoga may give you a kick start towards reaching your goal. For those of you who are in-between these two extremes, Yoga may or may not help you lose weight, but it's worth a try. You will receive many gifts from your Yoga practice, some of which will make being skinny seem like the trivial goal that it really is.
