Durga is as fierce a warrior as Kali, but she is as beautiful as Kali is horrific.
Durga is both compassionate and powerful.

Sixteen-Armed Durga
|

The gods needed some compassion after they founds themselves faced with the demon
Mahisasura. Mahisasura proved to be such a devoted subject that Shiva gave him a special gift - no man
or god could kill him. Being a demon, Mahisasura promptly took advantage of this and wreaked havoc.
Many people died, and the gods were driven from heaven. The feminine force, in the form of Durga, came
to the rescue. She rode in on a lion and, in a fierce and bloody battle, finally emerged victorious by
beheading the demon.

Durga is also known as "the unattainable one" and her name means "beyond reach." She
is also love personified. All women have a bit of Durga's fire and spirit, whether it's in protecting
a loved one or creating a masterpiece.
