Since food is energy, meant to fuel your body, think of it in these terms: how much fuel do I need before my next meal? If you're running errands you're going to need more calories than if you're sitting in front of a computer. When you're sitting in front of the television or going to bed, you're going to burn even less calories. This is why you should eat more early in the day instead of having dinner as your big meal. Breakfast and lunch should really be where you fuel up, and the more active you're going to be, the better you should eat. If you're not going to be active at all, you don't need as much food.
