The Ultimate Weight Solution: the 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom
by Dr. Phil McGraw
2003
For those who can finally admit that there is no "magic bullet" when it comes to weight loss, this book offers a no-nonsense, common sense guide towards truly achieving a fit lifestyle and a healthy relationship towards food. This involves learning how to overcome your self-defeating thoughts, coming to grips with stress and emotional pain, changing your habits concerning food, making the most of your food choices, finding exercise that you enjoy and surrounding yourself with support. Obviously, this is not an overnight formula - it takes time, thought and effort. But following these guidelines, as laid out in the book, will create radical changes, both inside and out. Not only will you be a thinner person, you will be a happier, more fulfilled person. Dr. Phil even discusses the issues surrounding those who are weight loss resistant because of certain medical conditions. He points out that being weight loss resistant doesn't absolve you from creating a healthier lifestyle for yourself (in fact, it may be even more important). This is the type of book most overweight people need, instead of the latest diet fad to hit the bestseller list. The only complaint here is that sometimes McGraw will use an overblown, complicated phrase to describe something quite simple. An example: what he calls "high-response cost, high-yield nutrition" is merely good, old-fashioned, wholesome food, as opposed to "low-response cost foods," which are mainly overly-processed fast foods. But in spite of the multi-syllable phrases, he makes his point quite clear - certain steps must be taken to effect permanent weight loss. He measures out those steps for you. All you need to do is start on the path. Other books you may find interesting:
