Dyer has centered this book around the concept of intention - not the "intention" that is synonymous with dogged determination, but intention in which one manifests the soul's desire through a powerful and unshakable connection with Source. It's an idea that was inspired by Carlos Castaneda but presented in a more down-to-earth way. (Although the origin of Castaneda's books is questionable, the principles he wrote about are actually quite compelling.) The Power of Intention is divided into three parts. In "The Essentials of Intention," Dyer gives intention form and definition - he ties it in with attributes such as creativity, kindness and abundance, and looks at it in relation to obstacles and relationships. "Part II: Putting Intention to Work" contains a lot of practical information about using intention to attain anything from success and abundance to self-respect and healthy interactions with others. The final chapter, "The Connection," describes "connectors," or those who are connected to the field of intention. If you want to effect positive change in your life, Dyer's book is actually a pretty good manual. Real change always begins from within, and The Power of Intention invites a major shift in consciousness. If you have seen Dr. Dyer's PBS special, then you already have an idea of what this book is about. If you haven't seen the show, it doesn't really matter since he explores the ideas he discusses in depth in this book. Either way, The Power of Intention is as powerful as you make it out to be. The information contained in this book is meant to be used, not merely pondered. The only way to enrich one's life is by taking action.
