Yoga to Go: A Take-It-With-You Guide for Travelers
by Paula Carino
2004
Because of Yoga's still-growing popularity, it is easier to find health clubs that offer classes or videos to take to your hotel room, but none of this is really necessary and, with Carino's illustrated guide, you can create a better, more personalized routine that will fit in any circumstance. You want an energizing morning routine to perform in your hotel room? Do you just have a few minutes to spare for some quick Asanas? Has your immune system run down, leaving you with a cold, or are travel frustrations giving you a headache? There are routines for these situations too. Actually, quite a number of these routines could also be applicable at home. In addition to the crisp photographs and detailed Asana instruction, Carino digs deeper into the Yoga lifestyle (the practice is, after all, about a lot more than just the postures). She discusses the Yamas and Niyamas and how they can play a part in your trip. There are also brief chapters devoted to Yogic eating on the road and meditation (including an exercise in walking meditation). For a book that's not very big (just over 200 pages — a good size for tossing in your carryon), Yoga to Go contains a lot of good information about taking Yoga with you, no matter where you're going or how you're getting there. And while its main focus is on the postures, there is valuable information regarding travel and Yoga's other 7 limbs for those who see the practice as more than mere exercise.
